What are the fundamental differences between greeting cards and e-cards?
Greeting Cards
Greeting cards do cost money and take time to buy and post. This investment in money and time pays off as the recipient appreciates the effort made and the sincerity. The card arrives in a brightly coloured or textured envelope with a real stamp on it and stands apart from the junk and bills in the mail box. The receiver looks forward to opening the card with anticipation. The greeting card displays real handwriting. A greeting card has a shelf life and the recipient is reminded of it as they walk past it on a daily basis. A greeting card may even be kept for years to come for sentimental reasons. A greeting card can be touched.
E-Cards
E-cards are often free to send and just take a moment to send over the internet. An e-card is received in the receiver's inbox and just takes a moment to access. The e-card may have a sound effect, animation and a printed message. Once the e-card has been seen, it may be viewed once more or the recipient may delete it from their inbox. Some people who receive e-cards may be reluctant to open e-cards as they may not trust the link they are being directed to. E-cards are generally considered a novelty means of sending a greeting.
